Me Verse You: Indie Band of the Week

Posted by Guelixa Garcia On October - 31 - 2010

Me Verse You

The band was formed of all previously signed touring bands.  Dave Schroeder, the lead singer, is a songwriter that has written three other full length records under the name of SO THEY SAY.  When he decided to start the new band he had already written the first three records for ME VERSE YOU.  The hooky choruses and great verses heard on their debut album, ANOTHER ENEMY is only the beginning of the three albums that ME VERSE YOU will release.

Typefighter: Indie Music Universe Band of the Week

Posted by Guelixa Garcia On October - 17 - 2010

TypefigherA bit more than a year since they formed, Washington DC based Typefighter, has already
recorded their debut EP (I Want to See You Game, Boys, I Want to See You Brave), embarked on a month long national tour, and gained quite a following in their native city.

Now they look forward, and have begun working on a full-length album, as well as organizing another national tour.  2010 should be a big year for Ryan Mclaughlin, Erik Anderson, John Crum, and Will Waikart; one thing is for sure, they still have a lot more to show with their own unique blend of “dream-pop-folk”(brightestyoungthings.com) and will be sure to “warm our hearts” (Allournoise.com).

Instrumentation

Ryan McLaughlin – Vocals, Autoharp, Guitar, Ukulele

Mary Voutsas – Piano, Rhodes, Vocals

Will Waikart – Drums

Slutterhouse: Indie Music Universe Band of the Week.

Posted by Mike Wilson On September - 19 - 2010

SlutterhouseSlutterhouse could be described as an outlandish crossover between underground electronica, mainstream club music, and rock n’ roll.  Most importantly though, Slutterhouse’s sound is the result of an alliance/tension between two very different personalities: Rabih Mick Salloum and Nabil Saliba.

Originally from Beirut and based in Paris, Slutterhouse released their debut album Made in Dance in the Middle East last fall; it was described by Time Out Magazine as “one of the finest electro-pop albums this critic has heard since Gary Numan first donned eye-shadow.” Slutterhouse’s debut record received both critical and public acclaim, while the band was featured in prestigious magazines such as ELLE and The Daily Star, and even made the cover of the February 2010 issue of Lifestyle Magazine.

Redlight Cinema:Indie Music Universe Band of the Week

Posted by Guelixa Garcia On August - 23 - 2010

Redlight CinemaRedlight Cinema's story sounds more like a fictional film than a genuine musical journey.  This story led three talented boys from a pristine, disconnected community in Upstate New York into the dirty and mystical streets of Manhattan where they have honed their sound.  From their melodic pop melodies to their unpredictable rock changes the "RLC" trio could not be any better if they tried.  Lead singer and songwriter Kevin Andreas' emotion filled, pitch perfect voice is slightly reminiscent of Adam Levine of "Maroon Five" and his mind-bending "Hendrix" inspired guitar skills are the center of Redlight Cinema's sound.  Rounding out the group, Kevin is accompanied by his brilliant younger brother Kyle on the drums and equally accomplished, calm and always cool, Dan Parra on bass.  Kyle and Dan follow their fearless leader as if they are reading his mind, and after so many years playing together they may well be.

Kevin and Kyle were raised in a strict religious household where mainstream music was not allowed.  Kevin remembers a punishment when he was thirteen years old that would change both of the boys lives forever.  "My punishment was to sit on the landing of these stairs for six months. I was even forced to sit there alone and have my meals.  When I knew that no one was paying attention, I would run to the top of the stairs above the landing where there was an old guitar that had three strings.  I barely knew any music but by this time I had heard the song 'White Room'.  I would try to figure it out in order to amuse myself.  I started hearing more music from kids in Jr. High School.  At this point, I already knew that this is what I would do with the rest of my life."  Their mother left home around the same time the boys seriously began to play.  The brothers learned to find solace in a place where they would not be let down.  This place was in their music.

Chasing Jones: Indie Music Universe Band of the Week

Posted by Guelixa Garcia On July - 19 - 2010

Chasing JonesChasing Jones, a four piece Pop Rock band, has defined themselves with high energy performances, catchy lyrics and steady grooves.  The first pieces of the group came together in 2007 with brothers Nick and Adam DiLullo collaborating for the first time.  With a solid foundation they were able to convince LA based drummer Blair Brown, a graduate of the Musicians Institute, to return home and join the band.  In 2008 they independently released their first EP, The Lie, to a sold out release party at the Starlite Room in Edmonton.  The puzzle was soon complete when Grant MacEwan music graduate Dwayne Ulliac joined as the new bassist.

With an invitation to showcase at Canadian Music Week 2010, radio play on stations across Canada, and great reviews coming in from all over, the groups name and distinct sound is being recognized on the local and national music scene.   As a band who frequents some of the top venues and colleges in Edmonton, Chasing Jones has shared the stage with hot acts like Tokyo Police Club, Hot Panda, Radio For Help, appeared in local magazines like Vue & SEE weekly, and on blogs all over the internet.
