Album Review: “Soul through the Speakers” by Sti-Lo Reel

Sti-Lo Reel: Soul Through The Speakers MixtapeSti-Lo Reel proves he is a heavyweight to be reckoned with in the field of lyricism and Independent hip-hop artists.

Sti-Lo Reel is the lyrical genius on the Minneapolis based independent label named Pledge Empire Records. Born and raised in Minneapolis Sti-Lo name rings bells in just about every corner of the Twin Cities because of his sharp delivery and witty punch lines. With this August release of the long awaited “Soul Through the Speakers” mixtape Sti-Lo’s name will continue to grow rapidly not only across Minneapolis but the whole U.S.

Sti-Lo begins his lyrical assault on the opening track titled “Soul through the Speakers” letting the world know that he has finally arrived saying “I’m here haters witness the livest and the greatest” again showing his confidence in his lyrical ability. On the hard hitting track “Bacc to Business” Sti-Lo Reel really shows his audience that there is no contender when it comes to flows and style at the same time letting everyone know that he is focused on his business and his hustle is first and foremost. This is definitely Hip-Hop on a higher level!

On the Rich Lee produced track “Set the Record Straight” he just let it go with no hook on the entire song just “spittin” line for line. My favorite line is “Running my relay single handed, handing myself the baton”. Sti-Lo also let you know that now that the contract is signed he finally feels he has found his home in Pledge Empire Records. Last, but not least my favorite track on the album is “Who Needs a Title” song produced by Rod Ricks. This track chimes in sounding like an intro to an old Kung –Fu movie then the beat switches and gives you a feeling of pure bliss. You can tell that Sti-Lo Reel felt the same way about the track and creates a song with a message without a title. This song gives you something that many artists are lacking these days “creativeness”.

In the eyes of a true hip-hop fan this album has to be a pure “Utopia” with songs laced with lyricism and hard beats. Next on deck for this young artist Sti-Lo Reel, will be his official digital solo debut on Pledge Empire Records. Also, in the coming months Sti-Lo Reel and Pledge Empire Records will host a “Soul through the Speakers” mixtape release party. If you’re a lover of hip-hop and good music you should make sure you are in attendance. For this artist Sti-Lo Reel and the Pledge Empire Records the sky is the limit.
