The Happy Unfortunate
Start with Motown greats like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, add layers of A Tribe Called Quest and Slum Village, and jazz it up with a dash of Miles Davis. With smooth beats and a blend of funky-fresh flavour, The Happy Unfortunate’s signature sound is a sweet treat making hip-hop heads nod with approval.
Music lovers must be warned – with just a small taste, their music becomes highly addictive. 20-year-old Malcolm-Jamal Wilson (Malcolm-Jay) and 16-year-old Daniel Caneda (DJ Envoy) of The Happy Unfortunate are an up-and-coming hip-hop duo from Winnipeg, MB. With their unique vibe and swagger, these boys serve up fresh tracks that go far back from what their generation usually listens to. From The Jackson Five to Pete Rock, the combination of old school boom bap and modern day funk creates a classic yet original sound that has caught the attention of jazz and hip hop fans alike.
Growing up as childhood friends, making songs was a mere past time, with Malcolm-Jay writing songs at 14, and Envoy producing beats while only 12. In 2007, personal tragedies struck their homes when both of their fathers passed away only two days apart; needing an outlet for their emotions, they turned to music, and formally chose to operate as The Happy Unfortunate. “The thinking was that it was unfortunate. But, you have to stay positive to see that there’s a better tomorrow after the darkness” says Malcolm-Jay, “It just worked for us.”
Since then, they’ve collaborated with rap artists like Muneshine, Abstract Artform, The Residence and Otayo Dubb. With more collaborations lined up and over 12 local shows under their belt, the buzz they’ve created so far will soon make them a household name in the Canadian rap scene.

Alpha Boyz
Montreal-based, Alpha Boyz music is inarguably the most exciting thing going on in hip-hop right now. Alpha Boyz consists of two members, Stevo and J.O.S. These Hard Working, Talented and ambitious men have been working together since 2002, they were originally known as “Crazy Block” in Florida which at that time consisted of D Money, And Brothers Stevo and J.O.S. In the summer of 2002 Smithy a member of their production team, decided to invest his money into the group and purchase the studio equipment they needed, to be able to start recording their first Single “We Be At The Club”. “So clean”, their first hit, would be the Single that got these talented and creative Men, the fan base needed to start performing in larger venues in and around South Florida. “Crazy Block” was on their way to success. In 2005 looking to further their careers within the music industry and to add more talent to the group they sought out “Jeano” who was formally a member of “Crew Plick” in Florida. It is at this point the name “Alpha Boyz” was created. With the talent of these three men combined, they started writing and producing many more hit songs such as “Knock em’ out” and “Chevy Rindin”. Now residing in Canada, the group is consisted of two members, J.O.S and Stevo.

She gets whatever she wants, and does not understand the word,"no." This temptress loves big eyelashes, and metallic clothes. Scarlletta is known throughout London as every woman's alter ego. Being a huge fan of Madonna, she definitely has some of the same characteristics. She is not afraid of taking chances, when it comes to her music, clothing, makeup, and performing, she pulls her crowd in as soon as she steps foot on the stage. Currently, she is doing shows all over London, while working in the studio, on her album with producer Benny D.

Julian Bachlow
Julian Bachlow (Vocals, Keyboard, Guitar, Bass and Drums) is an independent artist who started his band in January 2007 in Schomberg, Ontario while attending York University. Julian Bachlow performs his own material in which he has written, produced and recorded. His musical style and influences include The Cure, Stars, Modest Mouse, Radiohead and the Postal Service. Currently Julian has finished his new CD entitled “Paradigm”. “Paradigm” is the first release from this Artist and he is currently promoting, marketing, and distributing his album independently as well as with his street team. Currently Julian is in the works to have an all across Canada tour in the summer. Thanks to his efforts, he has recently charted #1 at numerous campus radio stations across Canada. “It’s pretty amazing what this guy is trying to do, he is walking around campus promoting his CD, and he is totally independent” (Christian Esposito, York University Radio) Julian is also creating a website called 2 line productions that will allow independent musicians and other artists of all forms to showcase their music and art within the local community. It will encourage and support collaboration between artists for different events and projects. His major hope for the website is to foster an environment where artists have a chance to be seen, heard, for networking, for feedback and for new opportunities. As well as giving support to anti-suicide charities.
