Hey, we gotta show the independent record stores some love too! Go out and support one of them on the second annual Record Store Day, which takes place on April 18th.
Although the rise of eCommerce and the growing popularity of digital downloads have put many independent "mom and pop" record stores out of business, not all is lost.
For years, Independent record stores have been a friendly outlet for local music acts to sell their recordings and promote their shows. Yes, many of these stores have permanently shut their doors, but there is still a remnant out there catering to those music buffs that still like to collect physical product for nostalgic value — and quite simply for the fun of it.
And don’t forget about vinyl. These grooved discs are making a big comeback as their sales have picked up significantly. Sure, you can purchase hard-to-find LPs easily online, but nothing beats the thrill of getting your fingers a little dusty and finding a gem at the record shop.
The best news here is that record labels and artists will be out at many outlets with in-store performances and unique pieces of product. Over 1000 stores worldwide are expected to participate.
