Virtually out of nowhere, independent R&B producer and artist Stevie Hoang rose to Internet fame following the release of his debut album, This Is Me, in December 2007.
This well written and critically acclaimed album reached number 1 on the MySpace charts and topped the Japanese Itunes charts ahead of Rhianna, Chris Brown and Alicia keys quickly after its release. The success of This Is Me landed Hoang a supporting spot on Omarion’s UK tour.
This talented UK artist began his musical journey at the young age of 11, after his parents forced him to take piano lessons. This proved to be a good thing for Hoang as he quickly realized his musical talent and became hooked on R&B, especially music by Boyz 2 men, R Kelly, Joe, Usher, Dru Hill and Brian McKnight.
By the age of 16, Stevie wanted to try his hand at singing, but ran into difficulty developing his voice. As an outlet, he turned to music production after taking a college course in music technology. By the age of 19, Hoang landed a deal as a producer on a UK record label and began producing tracks for major urban artists. Despite his success as a producer, Stevie still did not give up his dream of becoming a singer. After working with great vocal coach, the young R&B artist finally "found" his voice and began recording his own songs.
What makes Stevie Hoang distinct is the way he blends his Asian roots into his sound. This has worked extremely well for Stevie as evident with his chart topping success in Japan. Currently, Hoang has completed his sophomore album titled Better Man, which is tentatively scheduled for release in June 2009. His new managment team, 14th Floor Records, decided to postpone its originally scheduled release in late 2008 in order to build a strong buzz and increase his fanbase beyond the impressive numbers it’s at right now.
