Boyce Avenue: Indie Music Band of the Week

Posted by Mike Wilson On March - 16 - 2009

boyceavenueBoyce Avenue is a fresh, young, Florida-based band popular for its strong acoustic roots and constant drive toward a melody- and harmony-driven rock sound.   This talented trio consists of three brothers — Alejandro, Fabian, and Daniel Manzano, and friend Stephen Hatker. The four boys started out their band after Alejandro and Fabian, then 14 and 16 years old, respectively, began playing the guitar at home. About three short months later, they were doing performances at their high school.

However, as the years passed, they separated for awhile to pursue their school careers. During vacation breaks and other open opportunites, they would all get together to collaborate musically.

Things really started to take off in October 2004 as the band came together full time and wrote their first song, Find Me. Following this, Boyce Avenue began performing at local bars and were even featured in newspapers throughout Florida.  Just two years later, at the end of 2006, the band recorded its first three singles at Nickel and Dime Studios near Atlanta, Georgia.

The following is a list of Boyce Avenue's accomplishments between 2007 and 2008:

  • Qualified as a Southeast Semifinalist in the 2007 IMWS competition

  • All The While was selected as a Semi-Finalist in the 2007 International Songwriting Competition, and as one of twelve Lennon Award Winners in the 2007 John Lennon Songwriting Contest

  • Find Me was selected as a Finalist in the Pop category for the U.S.A. Songwriting Competition

  • Hear Me Now (piano acoustic) was selected as a finalist in the Best Group/Duo category for the IAMA songwriting competition, and as a finalist in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition.

Following these successes, the band took a hiatus from publicly performing to concentrate on writing and recording their debut album titled “All You’re Meant To Be,” which was released by on March 25, 2008.

The album has garnered much attention from major press since its release, including write ups in CNN Money and the Kings of A&R.  Additionally, Boyce Avenue has established itself as one of the top 8 Artists of All-Time on YouTube, with over 80 million hits. Their songs have been featured in various MTV shows and most recently, All You're Meant To Be has been licensed for sale nationwide in the Philippines through MCA Music, and is on path to Gold status.

On the strength of the band's touring success in the United States and the Philippines, the band is poised to launch a worldwide tour in 2009.
